Audi has adapted the TT's design and style to a more contemporary aesthetic without completely detracting from its classic elements, seen in its Bauhaus-inspired wheel arches - harming the iconic design of the beloved MK1 . Now in its third adaptation, the TT is recognizable by its signature singleframe grille, furred bros, sharp intersecting body lines, dual exhaust outlets, and an adaptive rear spoiler that complements its sporty undertones. Despite being based on the same MQB platform shared with the Audi Q3 crossover and the VW Golf hatchback, the Audi TT looks much more compact due to its coupe design, low-slung frame and short front and rear overhangs. Although classified as a sports car, the Audi TT is actually somewhat discontinued compared to Audi's true performance-based offerings, including the performance-focused TT RS and R8 Supercar. When the TT reaches its mid-range, engine performance dynamics reach their peak, however, where it gives linear power and faster responses and makes the most of its wide torque band.
Shifting well in the TT works well as power and torque quickly reach high range. The engine's soundtrack is also incredible, even sounding better than the 718 Cayman. Audi's dual-clutch transmissions are noted for their refined performance and the seven-speed automatic used by the TT: the shifts are always smooth, fast and smooth, and in sportier mode, the accompanying flatulence is a joyous delight.
