Volkswagen Passat 2020

2020 Volkswagen Passat Performance

A smooth ride in the 2020 Passat occasionally balances the clunky automatic transmission. Despite the new exteriors, the 2020 passat is much like the previous year.

The VW offers only one powertrain in the Passat - a 2.0-liter turbo-4 paired exclusively to the 6-speed automatic. This is not particularly quick (although it is not required) but some gear is either below and over refinement compared to the 6-speed industry average. The gift of the Passat is a smooth ride, which aligns more with the preferences of medium-sized shoppers. This is a wash on our performance scale.

The 2.0-liter turbo-4 that powers the power, makes 174 hp and 206 pound-feet of torque, sent only to the front wheels. Unlike prior years, there is no V-6 option for the Passat and no all-wheel drive.

The standard 6-speed automatic is given more attention to fuel efficiency,

although the Passat has a combined rating of 27-mpg compared to competitors. There is some questionable shift behavior: eager to get out of 1st gear after 6-speed takeoff, but not a noticeable difference between a longer 2nd gear and 2nd and 3rd gear, and last, up to 40 mph Feels impressively quick. We can't help but feel like more cogs (Tiguan has an 8-speed automatic, for example), which would have made the palette's powertrain feel a bit more sophisticated.

However, we have good feelings for the Passat ride. On 18-inch wheels, VW easily sucked road-diets and flaws - the 19-inch walls on the R-Line aren't too stiff either. As a result, the Passat has a fairly lean body, but is par for the course.

Passat R-Line models add paddle-shifters that feel like an aftermarket; At high rpm the engine is buzzy and overworked.

Unlike many turbo engines, the 2.0-liter turbo-4 is not far off the line. Put in the bonus column.

2020 Volkswagen Passat Security

Crash-test data for the 2020 passat is not yet available.
It's too early for the 2020 Parasat's crash-test scorecard, so we'll take our ratings back for now.

It is "good" for the IIHS Awards in all its crash tests, but its head safety pick awards have not rated critical headlights. NHTSA has not updated its ratings with the new model year.

Lacking official figures, all 2020 passes are equipped with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitor and rear-traffic alert. Adaptive cruise control and active lane control are equipped with the Passat SE and higher trim levels. Parking sensors and assistants are found in the top-shelf Passat SOL

2020 Volkswagen Passat Features

Good base features and a generous warranty make the 2020 Passat the base variant at best.
The good news for shopkeepers is that the cost of the 2020 pass was about two years ago.

VW offers dice in S, SE, R-Line and SEL trim levels, starting at $ 23,915 including mandatory destination fees. All cars are equipped with a 6.3-inch touchscreen with active safety features (capped above), Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, Bluetooth connectivity, at least one USB port, 17-inch wheels and cloth upholstery.

Starting with an average score, the Passat gets one point above average for its base facilities and another for its 4-year / 50,000-mile warranty, including two years of free maintenance. It is a 7 for features.

2020 Volkswagen Passat Fuel Economy

Fuel economy is fine in the 2020 Past, but also behind the competitors.
Down to just one powertrain configuration, the 2020 VW Passat's fuel economy score is a breeze: 23 mpg city, 34 highway, 27 combined.

It is also in the middle of the 5 and road on our fuel-economy scale for new cars.

VW may have assumed a more forward-looking, smaller-displacement turbo-4, or a few more mpg out of the transmission with all of the above - but it didn't.

The new mid-size sedans, such as the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry,

leave the Passat behind. The Accord rates up to 33 mpg combined and the Camry is up to 34 mpg - and before we talk about hybrid versions of the two, which VW does not offer in the Passat.
